`Fluid pressure is a series of 3d printed concrete vases whose unique shapes result from the material's pressure sensitivity. In rotating, dynamically ascending and descending motions, the robot creates an idiosyncratic figure with many facets. In an additive dance around its center, the vase keeps the balance and challenges the viewer to play with the perspectives.

Sugar has kept the profession of sugar confectioner together for centuries. It is the basic material on which the craft is built and the culture of Viennese coffee houses has shaped, conserved and has always made life sweet(er).

Fictional cake packaging „Zucker“ symbolically encompasses the cosmos and the meaning of the Viennese coffee house tradition.

It is a protective and at the same time fragile hood that covers the craft of the Zuckerbäcker. Under a sweet glass cube a cake is diffusely visible. It seems untouchable. Is it a seductive illusion or is it real?

Almost unchanged, since then the traditional recipes are preserved and still baked today. Zucker sees itself as an impetus for discussion. How can traditions be translated into our time without losing its essence? Underneath a glass dome conditions are safely and . What will happen if you remove it and expose the pie to unpredictable circumstances?

"Taste The Now"

Zucker is part of the project “Taste The Now” by Orlando Lovell that was developed for the Vienna Design Week 2019 together with five Viennese pastry chefs and five designers.

In a polycreative process Berlin food-designer Lovell interviewed five top Viennese pastry chefs about tradition and how they see the Viennese cake and coffee culture developing in the future. Following that, Lovell created five cake collages using a selection of each patisserie’s cakes and sweet treats.

„Dialog mit dem Material“

Installation for Rado Boutique Wien.

A material block is gradually processed by a 24/7 rotating file over the course of the exhibition, thus revealing its innermost parts as time continues. Thus, an initial "on-the-surface scratching" over time will "get deeper into the matter".

„Dialog mit dem Material“ exposes its different materials and their properties, thus revealing slowly their innermost parts. The installation is to be understood as an appeal not only to designers but to the whole society, to take a closer look and to work more intensively with the materials of our environment.

Only those who look closer become Master of Materials.

keep it sweet! Inspired by candies the dildo series „silicone sweets“ is made of additive-free, odourless silicone and are the result of a cooperation with the Dresden-based dildo manufacturer "SelfDelve".

Liquorice stick, marshmallow, bisquit roll, nonpareils and cotton candy are available in small and large diameters, strong and weakly textured surfaces and different degrees of hardness. Every toy is handmade at the manfactory in Dresden.

The Importance of the Obvious: a closer look at the characteristics of materials

Every material has a variety of qualities, some of which are entirely unique. The qualities of the materials, which are chosen by the designer, will have an impact on the design process. But just how much of an impact?

This project looks at the dormant potential of materials, and how it could be put to use. First we’ve taken a close look at food, which, although itself a material, requires entirely different and often unique or experimental preparation methods. We’ve also investigated the role of the chef. Both were used as a source of inspiration, and also as a basis for our analysis.

Attracted by the material characteristics of candies, we translated their colours, textures, layering, and expressions into designs.

The light "inside out" is a tribute to 3D printing.

Its sidewalls consist of mathematically generated support material that is usually invisible because it is hidden inside a component and functions to guarantee stability with low material consumption.

studio kollektiv plus zweis idea of visualizing the support material not only follows aesthetic but also practical motivation, since it serves as a diffuser of light while it stages the support structure .

Printed with biodegradable PLA, Inside outs components are made of little material that can be produced in short printing times.

From the module to the complex object, the luminaire finds its inspiration in architecture (modularity in skyscrapers) and constructive open buildings.

Heavenly or hellish: sugar has a special meaning to all of us. Some use the sweetener when celebrating important events. Others regard sugar as the white poison, the major enemy of health. For our great exhibition Sticky Business – The Temptation of Sugar in Art in the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, food designer and guest curator Marije Vogelzang invited some twenty artists from this country and abroad who shine a new light on this social issue.

FRAME is as series of 3 furniture pieces that function as a desk, hall stand or wardrobe. The central frame made of solid high-quality birch wood can be modularily filled with drawers, shelves or a clothes rail.

It adapts individually to different needs and gives a visual structure to the rythm of the layered surface that gently invites to be touched and get closer. A fine veneer offers pleasure for eyes and hands tracing back to the irregularity and sensual stimulation of wood.

Stone is a sculpture that can be used as a side table or a stool. Stone asks the user to play with each of the ten massives marbles strata to give rythm to the sculpture, construct or deconstruct the grain structure of this exceptional marble.

Nowadays transportation and logistics define our modern way of living. We felt attracted to design something that meets those high requirements of sending and producing things. KNITULA (The knitted tube lamp) is designed to use minimal space and costs on the way. It comes in an A4 envelope, including 9 struts, 2 rings and 1 knitted tube. Its middle struts can be easily clicked on two rings to make the lantern stiff. The textile can be simply pulled over the construction. Knitula can be used both in- and outdoors.

We are going to be conducting an investigation into the value of the many things that we casually throw away these days without even a second thought. Right from the start of the project we have never considered waste products as being worthless or useless. Instead, we viewed them as objects which were not properley understood and which needed to be further examined as we felt that they could still have much more potential for further use.

For me and my project partner we consider waste simply to be: misunderstood materials, which are often simply inapppopriately thrown away and left to rot. We therefore decided to start working on correcting this issue. The unconventional thing about the approach we adopted was to use existing resources for starting the design process.

We visited local companies, had conversations with ecologists and waste management experts in order to get as detailed an insight as possible into their respective waste management procedures. In doing this we found our theory to be correct (ie. that companies do indeed throw away valuable materials for the simple reason that they have no further use for them).

From the waste that we were able to collect we have been able to develop a collection consisting of eight different items of good quality and extremely innovative furniture. These clearly demonstrate just how easy it is to produce high quality furniture from products that many companies would simply have considered to be rubbish and have thrown away.
